About Tanya

I have spent more than 20 years working in behaviour change, supporting people, families, professionals and organisations through some of the most challenging and meaningful parts of life. Over that time, one thing has become increasingly clear to me: behaviour is one of the biggest issues facing our communities, yet so many people still do not feel properly equipped to understand it, respond to it, or support lasting change. That is why I created The Behaviour Change Academy.

After years in this field, I kept coming back to the same question: if there is so much funding, so much research, so many qualifications, and so many resources going into behaviour support, why are the statistics getting worse instead of better? Why are there more behaviour incidents, more overwhelm in schools, more professionals saying they do not feel equipped, and more people struggling to create lasting change in their lives? To me, the math did not math. It became very clear that what we are currently doing is not working well enough.

The Behaviour Change Academy came from that realisation. I wanted to create something that could equip people properly, not just with theory, not just with symptom relief, but with a practical, accessible way of understanding behaviour and supporting real change.

The Body Life Skills Program

A model for lasting change

At the centre of this work is the Body Life Skills Program, the model I developed through years of clinical practice, observation and application. The model is based on a simple but powerful understanding: all unwanted behaviour happens for a reason, and unwanted behaviour is typically preceded by anxiety. If we want to understand the behaviour, we need to understand the anxiety. And anxiety comes from the body when we are in a part of life we do not yet believe we have the skills to deal with. That is why I call it Body Life Skills. The body is communicating that there is a life lesson here, and the work is to identify that lesson and develop the skills to deal with it.

What makes this different is that I am not interested only in reducing behaviours or relieving symptoms. Relief matters, of course. Sometimes medication matters. Sometimes de-escalation matters. But relief on its own does not teach a person how to deal with life. If we only focus on calming the symptom, without building the life skills underneath it, the cycle keeps repeating. My work has always been about helping people not just feel better temporarily, but become more equipped. The goal is to support people to go into life, stay steady through life, and come out of life still settled, because they have the skills to deal with what comes their way.

That is what The Behaviour Change Academy exists to teach. Through courses, consulting, supervision, presentations and practical resources, I want to support professionals, support teams, families, organisations and communities to understand behaviour change in a much deeper way. I want people to leave not only with knowledge, but with practical strategies they can apply in real life, in disability, in parenting, in schools, in mental health, in leadership, in workplaces, and anywhere else human beings are trying to live, grow and relate to one another. Wherever there is a human, there is behaviour, and wherever there is behaviour, people need support to change it.

Making the complex simple

Practical skills for everyday life

A lot of what I teach is based not only on formal qualifications, but on lived application. I have spent decades working directly with people, training practitioners, and simplifying complex behaviour frameworks so they are not locked away in academic language or only accessible to a handful of specialists. I have always wanted to make the complexity of behaviour change more practical, more human, and more accessible to everyday people. That is one of the deepest reasons The Behaviour Change Academy matters to me. I do not want this knowledge to stay hidden in specialist spaces. I want it to be usable.

Ultimately, The Behaviour Change Academy is here to help people live and reach their full potential. It is here to support lasting change, not just temporary management. It is here to help people understand what behaviour is communicating, what life lesson is sitting underneath it, and how to build the skills to deal with that part of life in a new way. That is the work I have dedicated my life to, and The Behaviour Change Academy is one of the clearest ways I can now bring that work to more people.
